Quick & Easy Beauty Tips: Coconut Oil

Lifestyle, Obessions

I thought I would share with you a simple and easy beauty tip that works great for days when your skin just needs a little extra help and deep hydration. Since spring is on it’s way I think it’s about time we get our dry winter skin under control! I know I sure don’t want to break out the legs in shorts when my skin is dry! The secret is coconut oil! Yes, you read that right!

Coconut oil is great for your skin because it is extremely hydrating and it contains a large amount of lauric acid, which is a natural fatty acid that is found in breast milk, (kinda odd, I know.) The kind of coconut oil I am referring to is the natural, organic, extra virgin coconut oil. I personally choose to use it in a solid state, which then melts down to the oil by rubbing my palms together. You can choose to use it in a liquid format if you would like, but I have found that in traveling it is much easier to transport/lug around in the solid state! I bought mine at the local grocery store, but I would imagine there would be more options of sizes and brands at an organic or specialty food store. The jar I bought cost me no more than $9 and over the past 6 months I have barely made a dent in it!

So what I do is basically scrape a bit off at a time, rub it in between my palms, and then massage it onto my skin. I typically do this at night before bed, so that my skin has a chance to deeply absorb it. Plus, since it is an oil, I personally don’t enjoy the way it feels under my clothes during the day, so when I choose to use it in the morning as well, I let it soak in for about 15 minutes before getting dressed completely. It seriously makes your skin feel AMAZING! It is the only thing that saved my skin during the winter this year! One great aspect about the extra virgin coconut oil, is that it does not smell like coconut. I sort of anticipated having an overall coconut tropical scent every time I use it, but was pleasantly surprised! I love the smell of coconuts, but don’t exactly want that interfering with my perfumes! So, no need to worry, you won’t be walking around smelling like you just got back from a tropical vacation! (Plus coconut oil is great for cooking!)

    1. Yes!! I’ve used it to remove makeup, as an overnight hair mask, a deep conditioning for my lips, and when shaving! All sorts of uses!
